Loose Belly Flab – My Story

Not too long ago I had a problem that seemed impossible to overcome…a flabby belly. Now I’m sure that I’m not too different than many of you; I’m middle aged (in my 40’s), have two children and I work a full time desk job. I spent a lot of time in the gym trying to shrink belly fat without much success.

It’s not that I didn’t try hard, I did. Lots of aerobic exercises; running, treadmill, elliptical, you name it. I thought that I knew a lot about exercising after all, I had spent so much time in the gym. There had to be ways to lose belly fat but I just wasn’t getting anywhere!

What causes belly flab? I knew that diet played a role but I wasn’t sure what the other factors were so I did a little research to find out. Unfortunately there isn’t just one single reason that fat cells migrate to our middle body sections; which makes targeting them and getting rid of belly fat difficult.

• Biology; our early ancestor’s stored body fat to prepare for lean times and childbearing. The middle of the body is the optimum place to store fat cells…placement there doesn’t necessarily inhibit our ability to function normally, walking, running standing or sleeping.
• Genetic factors; we’re not all created equal…some bodies store very little fat while others store what seems like too much and honestly, genetics can be hard to overcome.
• Finally, modern lifestyle and diet play a large role. We can’t change our genetics or our biological past but we can modify our lifestyle and our diet to shrink belly fat.

I wasn’t successful in the beginning because I couldn’t put all of the pieces of the puzzle together. Understanding the underlying causes of the problem really helped me to focus on a solution…it set me in the right direction.
